This real life friendship will put all the Bollywood reel life friendships to shame. This is the journey of Sanju (aka Kumar Priyatosh) and Sikki who started with a vision to help and today have a very successful business that helps thousands of youth find the right path.
Growing up in Ranchi, both the friends belonged to families that insisted on good education. Destiny struck when they met each other in their pre-college years. They recall the days in early 90’s like it was yesterday, perhaps a small part of their heart is still 16 years old when they are together.
Sanju packed off and moved to Bangalore to pursue his engineering. Early 90’s was a very confusing time, the world was juggling between tradition and technology. There were pockets of high tech penetration and some pockets where people still lived like in the 90’s. In those days, it was a dream for every student in Bihar & Jharkhand to study in the land of Technology, Bangalore.
What people call luck, is often the courage a person shows in fulfilling their dream. Thus while thousands of students dreamed of making the move to South, only a couple hundred succeeded. Times were not like today, you couldn’t just google and get what you want, there was a lot that needed to be done on foot.
Sanju was among those who spent weeks without rest and finally woke up to the day he was a student at Ramaiah Institute of Technology. This joy however was bitter sweet, it came with pain of leaving some of his closed friends behind because they were unable to secure a position in this prestigious college like him.
His first few weeks in college were spent surrounded by people who knew what they wanted but just didn’t know how. He recalls a time when admission forms costing a mere INR 200 in Bangalore were sold for a premium at INR 2000 in Ranchi. Moreover information was scarce, most people applying for a college in Bangalore had never been to this city. They only followed the names of colleges that others narrated stories about. Sanju saw this as an opportunity to help his fellow mates and Sikki joined the cause.
In the next couple of months that followed, Sanju and Sikki covered Bangalore from end to end and met every admission officer in every college. They manually took notes on the details like courses offered, fee structure and methodology of admission. They also collected admission forms from across all these colleges and documented the relevant details.
Sikki then gathered a large group of youth in Ranchi and educated them about the various options available in Bangalore. He ensured that people got all the information about the courses and fees in various streams. Sanju carried admission forms back and forth and they did not charge a penny from the applicants.
Slowly but steadily the system of college admissions in Jharkhand became less expensive and complex. People who lost all their lives savings to fake agents trying to get an admission for their children, finally had someone they could trust. Sanju and Sikki together changed the lives of hundreds of people, and this is what they knew they wanted to do for years to come.
Sanju was elected the Ramaiah President in his first year and continued to be the President in Bangalore University for the following 4 years. He used this opportunity to educate and spread awareness among his fellow students about their right to information. He encouraged people to steer clear from fake agents and only trust known sources when it came to college admissions.
Sanju and Sikki and the team at Shiksha Consultancy help over 800 students a year by guiding and counseling them regarding admissions. They truly make dreams come true!
